UPDATED 7/12/22, 3:48 p.m. ET:On Tuesday, ESPN’s David Jacoby issued an on-air apology during This Just In for running with the fake Ja Morant quote.

ESPN’s This Just In ran a segment Monday centered around a fake quote from Ja Morant about Michael Jordan.
In the fake quote, which came from Ballsack Sports, Morant said Jordan would be considered “just another superstar” if he were playing today.
ESPN seemed to conflate the Ballsack Sports quote with Taylor Rooks’ interview with Morant in which he did claim he “would’ve cooked” Jordan. Ja explained that he’s “never going to go and say nobody going to beat me 1-on-1,” regardless of the sport.
Rooks confirmed Morant never said Jordan would be “just another superstar” in today’s league.
Morant also commented on the mistake.
David Jacoby, who filled in as host of today’s episode of This Just In, issued an apology for the mistake.
Back in May, ESPN got burned by Ballsack Sports, which “reported” a physical confrontation between James Harden and Kyrie Irving after the latter called his former Nets teammate “washed.”
