President Obama called Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue on Thursday to congratulate him on his team's NBA championship. There was some team banter, discussion of Obama's own hoops habit (which he said ended two years ago out of fear of injury), and talk of the Cavs visiting the White House.
But at the very end of the talk, the President had some advice for J.R. Smith, the Cavs star who has been shirtless almost continually since Game 7 ended. You can hear Obama's take on the situation in the video below:
"Tell J.R. and everyone to put on a shirt," the President said. "He can't just be walking around without a shirt for a whole week. But I guess if you're built like that..."
"I guess if you're in decent shape, you can do it," Lue replied.
Despite his position as arguably the most powerful man in the world, the President was not above a humblebrag about his friendship with Cavs star LeBron James. "I know LeBron, so I'd already e-mailed him," the leader of the free world told Lue. "But let the rest of the team know that we're proud of them."
The Cavaliers had their victory parade on Wednesday, and it was a big enough deal that people were allowed to skip out on court dates in order to attend.
