Alphonso Davies may be one of the best left-backs in soccer, but he wasn't always the most coveted player for international clubs.
During Davies' time with the Vancouver Whitecaps, FC Barcelona had shown some interest in him but balked due to him being Canadian.
"Barca actually reached out but the president said that they didn't want me," Davies said on the Say Less Podcast at the 39-minute mark. "They said that they didn't want me because I was Canadian. Not gonna lie, that crushed my feeling a little bit."
Davies would wind up playing soccer in Europe despite that, signing with Bayern Munich in 2018 before winning the Bundesliga five years in a row, the German Cup twice, and the Champions League title in 2020.
He also recently showed love on his Instagram for his hometown CEBL basketball team, the Edmonton Stingers.
On June 15, Davies and the rest of the Canadian men's national team will play in the Concacaf Nations League semifinal against Panama.
