The 2022-23 Toronto Raptors season ended not with a bang, but with a whimper. Fighting for a chance at the eighth seed, the team had to beat the Chicago Bulls before they could face the Miami Heat in a battle for the final playoff spot.
The Raptors held a 19-point lead in the third quarter and eventually squandered it as the Bulls beat them 109-105. Though there were many missed opportunities, none hurt the Raptors quite as much as missing 18 of their 36 free throws. Chicago might have Diar DeRozan, DeMar’s daughter, to thank for that.
Every time a Raptor prepared himself to take a free throw, Diar DeRozan let out a shriek, which could be heard on the court just as loudly as it could be heard over the broadcast.
In a postgame interview, DeMar DeRozan was happy he brought Diar along after he let her miss a day of school to watch him play.
“I said you can miss one day of school and come to a game and I’m glad I did,” DeMar said.
Reactions to the shrieking came fast with one Twitter user comparing Diar’s shrieking to a fight between dinosaurs in Jurassic Park.
Another user said Diar’s yelling was a “top 10 NBA betrayal,” after she once rooted for her father when he was a Raptor.
Someone else likened Diar to Regina Hall’s character in Scary Movie where she was loudly exclaiming during a movie.
With the Bulls playing the Heat on Friday, someone joked about Diar not being able to make it thanks to her school schedule.
Even the Bulls recognized who was the MVP on the night.
The Raptors ended their season with the loss. Meanwhile, the Bulls move on to face Kyle Lowry and the Miami Heat.
