Intro
If you're a truck enthusiast, this week we have you covered. Just because you like hauling stuff in your ride doesn't mean it has to be boring. Why settle for the same-old, same-old when "completely random" will do?
Three-Wheeler
10. Three-Wheeler
Vehicle: 2008 Zaptruck
Auction Link
Complex Says: Looking to get an electric car, but worried about where you'll put all your stuff? Look no further than this 2008 offering from ZAP. The company name stands for “Zero Air Pollution,” and this is a fully electric, three-wheeled pickup truck. According to the seller, it can get a whopping 25 miles per charge. So if you live close to wherever it is that you commute, this is the vehicle for you. We think. Also, it qualifies for registration as a motorcycle in some areas, due to the fact that it has only three wheels. You may want to check if this holds true in your locality.
It's An Adult By Now
9. It's An Adult By Now
Vehicle: 1960 Morris Minor 1000 Pickup
Auction Link
Complex Says: Although he is better known for having designed the original Mini, Sir Alec Issigonis also designed other important cars during his day. The Morris Minor was one of them, although we're not sure how much direct input he had into its pickup makeover, as seen here. In its native U.K., pickup and van versions of the Morris Minor were used primarily as commercial vehicles. Not a lot of them saw U.S. soil. In fact, the seller says this is one of just less than 200 that made it across the pond. It's been fully restored, and it's just waiting for your bid.
That's A Rallywagon!
8. That's A Rallywagon
Vehicle: 1971 Toyota Corolla TE28
Auction Link
Complex Says: This isn't just a two-door vintage Toyota Corolla station wagon. It's a nicely restored two-door vintage Toyota Corolla station wagon. It even has rally lamps and a cold-air intake. Only 10,000 miles on this baby, according to the seller (who's selling it for his dad). Definitely a nice conversation piece.
The T Is For "Truckin'"
7. The T Is For "Truckin'"
Vehicle: 1926 Ford Model T Market Truck
Auction Link
Complex Says: The Ford Model T is an icon of automotive history, whether you live in the U.S. or elsewhere. Even people who don't care about cars know the Model T. But did you know a pickup truck variant existed? We see lots of Model Ts on eBay and in various classifieds, but these pickups don't come up often. The pickup has always been good for hauling--even at the dawn of automotive civilization. We'd like to see you have a tailgate party with one of these.
Wunderbug!
6. Wunderbug
Vehicle: 1965 Volkswagen Beetle Wunderbug Pickup
Auction Link
Complex Says: What's a Wunderbug? It's a classic Beetle converted into a pickup, usually with a classic Ford front end grafted onto the beast. As a result, this Wunderbug's Montana title lists it as a “reconstructed vehicle.” The seller wasn't afraid to add some modern touches, as well. These include a Kenwood stereo with a flip-up face, along with recently redone shocks and transmission mounts. The cool thing about Wunderbug conversions is that although a few companies make kits to aid you in converting, no two are exactly the same. Beetles have been around so long, you can find lots of customized classic ones. If this one floats your boat, it's just that little bit rarer.
Not So Fast, Lada
5. Not So Fast, Lada
Vehicle: 1986 AvtoVAZ Lada 2107
Auction Link
Complex Says: If this is what family sedans will look like in 2107, we'll be very disappointed. No, that wasn't Russian carmaker AvtoVAZ's intent when naming this vehicle, but we still felt the need to have that on record. Ladas were never formally imported into the U.S., but you can occasionally find a few in the hands of enthusiasts. Incidentally, 1986 was the year Hyundai entered the U.S. auto market. At the time, the companies shared some ideas: straightforward, basic transportation for not a lot of money. We're not sure of the details on this car, as the seller would prefer that you call him to discuss them. We are, however, pretty sure you can go for a fairly long period of time without passing another Lada 2107 on the street. That has to count for something.
This Cow Takes Two-Stroke Oil
4. This Cow Takes Two-Stroke Oil
Vehicle: Custom Cow-Wrapped Vespa
Auction Link
Complex Says: If this Vespa was merely painted to look like a cow, it would have no justifiable place on this list. However, the seller specifies that the cow pattern is actually a fabric wrap. We have to wonder about the maintenance involved with keeping this cow-patterned Vespa looking its best. Obviously, a normal wash won't do the trick if you win the auction. We hope the fabric is dye-fast, or your first rainstorm out on your new Vespa will see you standing in a sad puddle of melted cow spots.
Get On The Bus
3. Get On The Bus
Vehicle: 1952 Chevrolet Pathfinder School Bus
Auction Link
Complex Says: This ain't your mama's school bus. Well, actually, depending on how old your mama is, it could be. But we're betting she never rode to school in an orange bus with flames and custom pinstriping. If she always dreamed of riding in style like this, here's your chance to impress her. Or just turn it into one hell of a party bus. The seller lists several upgrades, including a rebuilt motor with less than 1,000 miles on it, front disc brakes, a new exhaust, front and rear sway bars, and a complete digital dash upgrade with a hidden CD player. Classic style with modern conveniences. What's not to love?
Not Really a BMW
2. Not Really a BMW
Vehicle: 1965 Chang Jiang M1M With Sidecar
Auction Link
Complex Says: Want a semi-obscure classic motorcycle? Want shaft drive, but don't want an actual BMW? A Chang Jiang M1M, which clearly took its design cues from BMW, may be just the thing. The seller says it has been fully restored. It has both an electric and a kick start, and it has a four-speed transmission with a reverse gear. The engine is the classic sidevalve model also seen in the M1, except that the M1 lacked both the reverse gear and electric starter options. As of this writing, it's $7,600. Did we mention the sidecar? You know you want it.
An Interesting Little Journey
1. An Interesting Little Journey
Vehicle: 1899 De Dion-Bouton Vis-a-Vis Voiturette
Auction Link
Complex Says: As you may have guessed, the De Dion-Bouton company was French. It existed from 1883 to 1932, and it was well known for producing quality vehicles during its brief lifespan. For a short time, the company was actually the largest auto manufacturer in the world. Granted, it was the dawn of the century and not many auto manufacturers existed at the time. This particular example needs restoration and is missing its motor. On the plus side, it looks as though it still has its tiller. That's a good thing, because De Dion-Bouton Voiturettes all had tillers instead of steering wheels. If you have $30,000 and a lot of free time on your hands, perhaps the greatest thing about this car is that very few people will know what it is.
