Bobby Brown, fringe NBA point guard but master recruiter, will reportedly get another shot with the Houston Rockets later this season after the team waived him to make room for Gerald Green, per Yahoo! Sports' Shams Charania.
Brown, 33, had re-signed with the Rockets this past offseason after joining the team in 2016. Over his year and change with the franchise, he appeared in just 45 contests, averaging 2.5 points and 0.6 assists on 35.6 percent shooting from the field. The Rockets are Brown's fifth NBA team, and he's previously spent time playing in Greece, Turkey, Germany, and China, where he got in trouble for writing on the Great Wall while overseas with the Rockets in October 2016.
Despite his unremarkable numbers, Brown remains a popular figure in the league. James Harden pushed for him to get a deal with the team, and, as ESPN reported, he was a key part of the Rockets' pitch to Chris Paul, who played with Brown in New Orleans during the 2009-10 season.
ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski noted that Brown could be brought back on a 10-day contract.
Brown, meanwhile, may eye a return to China, where he once averaged 31.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 6.3 assists for the Dongguan Leopards and scored a franchise record 74 points in a game.
Green, who came to Houston after spending the previous season with the Boston Celtics, is averaging 16.8 points since joining the Rockets and shooting 56.8 percent from three-point range in their perimeter-centric system.
Friendships aside, it's easy to see why Houston made the move they did.
