C.J. McCollum has let it be known how he feels about super teams in dramatic fashion. So, it was no surprise that the Blazers' star was hoping Kawhi Leonard didn't go to the Lakers.
During an appearance on Adrian Wojnarowski's The Woj Pod, McCollum stated that he was "relieved" Kawhi signed with the Clippers.
"Deep down I was hoping he didn't go there," McCollum said when discussing Kawhi Leonard and the Lakers. "You want to be in the position to win championships, to make long runs. And looking at that roster, [the Lakers] would have been a serious problem... So I was relieved. I was like, 'Ah, that's good at least he didn't go to the Lakers.'"
This isn't the first time McCollum has attacked the super team idea. Ahead of the 2018-2019 season, it was announced that the Warriors signed DeMarcus Cousins to their already stacked roster. That prompted McCollum to speak out against Golden State to Kevin Durant on his personal podcast.
Outside of Kawhi and super teams, McCollum also shared his thoughts about players dropping out of Team USA/FIBA World Championship.
"Those extra miles in the summertime—I already lead the league in miles or close to it every year—I don't want to go run around in Australia, run around in China, and then have to come back and get ready for the season," he explained. "I could be strategically planning my workload."
