The years 2014 and 2015 have been breakthroughs for women trailblazing huge paths as authority figures in professional men's sports.
You can start by citing the recent hiring ofNancy Lieberman by the Sacramento Kings as an assistant coach, and then with Becky Hammon hired a year ago as an assistant coach of the San Antonio Spurs. Also, Jen Welter and Sarah Thomas were hired in the NFL as the first females to ever become an assistant coach and official, respectively.
So when Welter's Arizona Cardinals faced the Kansas City Chiefs in a Week 1 preseason matchup that Thomas happened to be officiating, it was only right to have both of these women share the historic moment on the field.
