Drew Brees wants to set the record straight: he’s not anti-LGBTQ. However, he has been working with an organization that opposes same-sex marriage and adoption by same-sex couples.

The New Orleans Saints quarterback was recently part of the "Bring Your Bible to School Day" campaign, which was started by a group called Focus on the Family. In the video, Brees tells kids to “share god’s love with friends” and doesn’t discuss same-sex marriage at all, per TMZ. However, some were upset that Brees worked with FOTF due to the group’s position on the LGBTQ community.

According to Queerty.com, FOTF “supports gay conversion therapy and religious freedom laws, believes trans people are deranged, says anti-bullying groups promote homosexuality, and has lobbied for legislation allowing anti-gay workplace discrimination.”

Now, Brees has responded in a video where he says he’s not homophobic and respects all people, regardless of their sexual orientation.

“There's been a lot of negativity spread about me in the LGBTQ community recently based upon an article that someone wrote with a very negative headline, that I think led people to believe that somehow I was aligned with an organization that was anti-LGBTQ and so on and so forth,” Brees said.

He continued, “I'd like to set the record straight, I live by two very simple Christian fundamentals and that is love the Lord with all your heart, mind, and soul. And love your neighbor as yourself.”

Hopefully this sets the record straight with who I am and what I stand for. Love, Respect, and Accept ALL. I encourage you not to believe the negativity you read that says differently. It’s simply not true. Have a great day. pic.twitter.com/4RdTahE7EZ

In a video shared by New Orleans’ CBS affiliate’s Doug Mouton, Brees said he “was not aware” of the group lobbying for any anti-gay messaging: “The [campaign] video itself was just focused on National Bring Your Bible to School Day. It was not promoting any group.”
