Saturday's matchup between Cincinnati and Ohio State was put on pause following a scary health incident.
Less than five minutes into the second quarter, UC safety Kyriq McDonald collapsed on the field and began convulsing during a play. The redshirt sophomore was down for several minutes as medical personnel examined his condition. Athletes from both teams gathered around McDonald as the stadium remained silent. Moments later, the Bearcat was able to get on his feet with assistance and appeared to be talking. McDonald was then carted off the field. He was later ruled out of the game.
A UC spokesperson told Cincinnati.com that McDonald "was alert and under the supervision" of the team's medical staff as the game headed into halftime. It's still unclear what exactly happened; however, McDonald's mom told ABC's Allison Williams that her son has a history of seizures.
McDonald experienced a similar incident during last year's national championship. The athlete, who was playing for Alabama at the time, collapsed on the sideline and was taken away on a stretcher. An Alabama spokesperson told ESPN that it was a "non-athletic medical issue."
