Ball has had a very impressive first season, leading all rookies in nearly every major offensive category. If the season were to end today, Ball would undoubtedly win Rookie of the Year, His only real competition has come from the Minnesota Timberwolves’ Anthony Edwards.  Shortly after news of LaMelo’s season-ending injury broke, Edwards’ teammate, D’Angelo Russell, sent out a tweet implying that Edwards is basically a lock for the award.

Whether you agree with his take or not, the timing of the tweet was not ideal, and Russell was called out for it.

Not great timing here, DLo

While Ball’s ROY chances have certainly taken a hit, the small sample size we’ve seen so far suggests he’ll be a star in this league for years to come.
