Conor McGregor lost to Floyd Mayweather in their highly-anticipated fight on Saturday night, and believe it or not, the internet had a surprisingly mature response to it. At first. Most people praised McGregor for putting up such a good fight against Mayweather and couldn’t believe how impressive he looked in his first professional boxing match. When you consider these stats, it’s hard not to be blown away by what McGregor was able to do:
But of course, the internet is the internet, so it was only a matter of time before people started bombarding social media with memes in reaction to the outcome of the fight. Some of them focused in on the 49-1 suit that McGregor wore to one of his pre-fight press conferences with Mayweather, while others referred to the massive payday that McGregor will get despite taking an L to Mayweather. But they were all equally savage and proved that, impressed or not, the internet will not let a loss go unpunished when it comes time to create memes.
