New York City sports talk radio host Mike Francesa has been entertaining the masses—and sonning a lot of listeners—for almost 30 years now. He started his now-legendary WFAN radio show back in 1989 and has served as the station’s drive-time host ever since then, both with his longtime co-host Chris “Mad Dog” Russo and without him. But during a taped appearance on the Garbage Time podcast with FS1’s Katie Nolan this week, Francesa reveals that he’s ready to call it quits at the end of next year when his current contract with WFAN is up. At least as far as his radio show is concerned.
“I’m not saying I’m leaving the business,” he told Nolan. “I’m leaving Monday to Friday, five and a half hours, WFAN, I’m bringing the curtain down on that part of the show. I am not saying I’m not going to work again. I’m not saying I’m not going to do anything ever again. What I’m saying is that part of my life is ending at the end of '17. I’ve agreed to stay through the end of '17. We talked about me leaving earlier. We discussed it. They didn’t really want it. They didn’t really give me a chance to get out. They never offered me a reasonable way out. So '17, it is. At the end of '17, there will be no more WFAN, that I promise.”
