Isaiah Thomas had a lot to say about the Cavaliers after they decided to deal him to the Lakers at the NBA trade deadline back in early February. He threw shade at his former team on several occasions and seemed to suggest he didnāt like the way things played out during his short stint in Cleveland.
So it wasnāt all that surprising to see Thomas do what he did on Sunday night during his first game against the Cavaliers since the trade. He played arguably his best game of the entire season, dropping 20 points and dishing out 9 assists in a convincing 127-113 win over LeBron James & Co.
But despite the strong performance on his part, Thomas insisted he didnāt see the matchup with the Cavaliers as a revenge game. While speaking with reporters after the contest, he said it was just another game for him.
"I donāt need to show anybody, they know what I can do," Thomas said, according to the Los Angeles Times. "I only played 15 games for them, so itās really not about showing them what I can do. The world knows what I can do and what I bring to the table. I took it as another game and I just wanted to win, and we did a hell of a job as a team beating that really good team over there."
Thomas also insisted he doesnāt harbor any ill will for any of the Cavaliers players or anyone in the Cavaliersā front office.
"I have really close friends on that team, and those guys are great guys," he said. "They just made a business decision, and Iām trying to move on for the most part."
Thomas may have done his best to steer clear of talking trash to his former Cavaliers teammates on the court on Sunday night. But he talked plenty of it to his close friend Floyd Mayweather. The boxing champ attended the Lakers game and exchanged words with Thomas several times throughout the course of the contest.
Thomas is averaging 15.7 points and 5.7 assists per game in 12 games with the Lakers after averaging 14.7 points and 4.5 assists per game in 15 games with the Cavaliers earlier this season.
