Everyone knows that Plaxico Burressaccidentally shot himself in the leg back in 2008. How could you possibly forget it? But you probably don’t know about many of the circumstances surrounding the shooting, because Burress hasn’t talked much about them. Neither has Antonio Pierce, who was out with Burress that night.

Part of that is because, according to Pierce, he doesn’t remember much of what happened. Or rather, it all happened so quickly that his memories of that night are a blur. But earlier this afternoon, Pierce made an appearance on ESPN’s Russillo & Kanell and did his best to shed some light on what happened the night Burress altered the course of his career—and to a much larger degree, his life—forever by carrying a gun into a New York City nightclub and accidentally firing it into his leg.

Unfortunately, Pierce doesn’t tell the whole story here. At the end of it, he mentions that there are some details he didn’t share. But it’s the most in-depth version of the story that we’ve heard. Interestingly, Pierce also mentions that, if the Giants hadn’t been scheduled to play the Redskins the week that the shooting took place (the team considered Washington to be an easy W), there’s a good chance that the players wouldn’t have even been out that night.

Check out the clip above to hear Pierce tell his story.
