Do you think that you know everything there is to know about Mike Tyson? Well, think again. Because late yesterday, Iron Mike held an "Ask Me Anything" with his fans on Reddit. And even though we thought we knew just about everything there is to know about Tyson, we still managed to find out a handful of new things about him. He still owns about 2,500 pigeons.
He doesn't like any other kinds of birds. But he just can't get over how much he loves pigeons.
Achieving sobriety is his biggest achievement in life.
He has accomplished a lot of things in his life. But he says that when he was able to "stop drinking and using drugs," it was the most important thing he's ever done.
He remembers partying with 2Pac.
During the AMA, Tyson was asked about 'Pac and referred to him as a "really close good friend of mine." He then talked about his favorite memory of him, which took place when 2Pac was 19 and took over a party that he was at.
He considers himself his own worst enemy.
When he was asked about the hardest opponent he's ever faced, he responded, "Me, Mike Tyson." Deep!
The most important lesson he ever learned: Be humble.
"Life will make you humble," he says. He's living proof of that, isn't he?
He would have beaten up Buzz Aldrin in the boxing ring.
At one point, Tyson was asked if he thought his AMA was going to be better than Aldrin's AMA, which also took place yesterday. He said no. But then he added, "If Buzz had got into the ring with me, I could have sent him to the moon without the rocket ship." Ha!
He's not a fan of gentrification in New York City.
There is a Whole Foods in his old neighborhood, so he hates the new New York. "Too many people," he says. "It's just overwhelming…Sometimes I go to my old neighborhood, and think to myself, 'Was my whole life a lie?' You don't see the bunch of guys hanging out on the corner anymore. Now you see a whole bunch of white people."
He doesn't think that boxing has impacted his health negatively.
"I went in talking funny and came out talking funny," he said. In other words, he doesn't think the blows to the head that he took during his career had any impact on his long-term health.
He wants to see Floyd Mayweather fight Manny Pacquiao every bit as badly as we do.
