Tevin Biles-Thomas, the 24-year-old brother of Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles, has been charged with triple murder in Cleveland. Biles-Thomas was arrested on Thursday in connection to a fatal shooting that took place on New Year's Eve, NBC reports. A statement by the Cleveland Division of Police and the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's Office says that an "uninvited group" entered the Airbnb property and "an altercation ensued."
Two men, 19-year-old Delvante Johnson and 21-year-old Toshaun Banks, were pronounced dead at the scene, while 23-year-old Devaughn Gibson was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. Biles-Thomas has been charged with six counts of murder, three counts of voluntary manslaughter, five counts of felonious assault, and one count of perjury. He is reportedly on active duty with the Army.
"The relentless persistence of Cleveland Police Homicide detectives helped secure an indictment in this case," said Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael C. O'Malley. "It is through their hard work that we can begin to seek justice for these victims." Biles-Thomas is currently being held at Liberty County Jail in Hinesville, Georgia, with an arraignment set for Sept. 13 in Cleveland.
Biles-Thomas and his sister, who won four gold medals at the 2016 Rio Olympics, were both raised in Cleveland by their grandparents.Â
