New York Giants head coach Pat Shurmur has been fired after just two seasons with the team. Shurmur was hired in January 2018, taking over for Ben McAdoo following his termination with four games left in the 2017 season. After two years with the Giants, Shurmur's record is 9-23 with the joint longest losing streak in the team's history.

"This is a wins business. I get it. I get it," Shurmur said following the Giants' 34-17 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. "We've been talking about this for, I think, six weeks, right? You've been asking me the same questions for six weeks. ... But that's the reality of this business. When you don't win, that's the line of questioning. I get that."

By the time the 2020 season arrives, the Giants will have their fifth head coach in six seasons.

Reactions online from Giants fans have been relatively muted, with many expecting the move due to the team's recent performance. A handful of fans were celebratory, but there was also the belief from some that the blame is entirely Shurmur's own. Giants general manager Dave Gettleman also received flak on social media, with a handful asserting that he too should be fired.

Pat Shurmur probably deserved to get fired but to lay the blame of what has happened here in the last two years at his feet is blasphemy.

Gettleman never gave him a chance with a competent roster.

Firing Pat Shurmur and basically placing all the blame on him and not firing Gettleman too is the ultimate window dressing move. We’ve come to expect that from John Mara. https://t.co/ycM6EJAIqR

This isn't good enough, though. Firing Shurmur and not blaming Gettleman is patently absurd. Totally ridiculous. #Giants https://t.co/Z6avkc6iEf

The Giants became a third rate organization the moment they fired Tom Coughlin. Sadly, that pattern continues today as they opt to move on from Pat Shurmur while retaining Dave Gettleman.

Let's review a few things Pat Shurmur did to get fired:

-TERRIBLE time management in-game
-Questionable personnel decisions
-predictable play-calling
-players lacked effort at times
-Saquon Barkley under-utilized

Anything else you want to add?#giantschat

The news arrives shortly after the Cleveland Browns fired head coach Freddie Kitchens. The search is on for new head coaches for both teams, although it remains to be seen how long it will take to find Shurmur's replacement.
