Danny Green thinks the Toronto Raptors will continue the tradition of not visiting the Donald Trump White House now that they are NBA champions.
In an interview with Yahoo, Green said that he doesn't believe the Raptors would accept an invite from Trump. No NBA champion has visited Trump's White House, but given that Golden State has been the only champions of his tenure, it could easily be seen as one team's animosity toward the president. However, Green believes that the Toronto organization won't set foot in the White House just like the team they beat to become first-ever non-US-based champs.
"I just don't think that we accept, " he said. "I try to respect everybody in every field that they do regardless of how crazy the things are but [Trump] makes it really hard. He makes it very, very tough to respect how he goes about things and does things."
"To put it politely, I think it's a hard no," he concluded.
Green could already see how this would play out, noting that Trump would likely rescind his invitation and claim that he never invited the Raptors in the first place. On that, he's largely correct. Trump recently danced around the idea of inviting the Raptors when asked by a Canadian journalist, likely trying to avoid the embarrassment of being publicly spurned by yet another team.
“Well, we thought about that. That’s an interesting question,” Trump told a Toronto Star reporter. “They played phenomenal basketball. I watched a little bit of it. They were really terrific. Congratulations, by the way. That was a great job by a great team. So we’ll think about that. If they’d like to do it, we’ll think about that.”
