In a scene straight out of Happy Gilmore, a fan stole the spotlight on Thursday at the Ryder Cup practice round.
Pro golfers Henrik Stenson and Justin Rose pulled the fan from the crowd after overhearing him claim he could have made a 12-foot putt that Rory McIlroy had just missed. McIlroy and Stenson missed the putt back-to-back, and the fan had seen enough.
The pros grabbed the fan, David Johnson of North Dakota, from the crowd, and offered him $100 if he could make the putt. So this dude stepped up to the challenge and absolutely sunk it.
Look at that reaction, that fist pump. That’s pure joy.
The pro golfers congratulated Johnson. He asked if they’d autograph the $100 bill. Johnson said he was “freaking out” before taking the putt.
“I razzed them a little bit, and they heard me, which is insane,” Johnson told reporters. “And then they brought me out, which is more insane. I haven’t fully realized what just happened, but overall that was a cool experience.”
