Kobe Bryant was once the captivating young basketball star everyone wanted to talk about. With unmatched athleticism and confidence, he found himself at the center of every storyline, and he loved being the center of attention. On a smaller scale, Odell Beckham Jr. has had a similar type of effect on football.
Today, the Giants receiver posted a heartfelt video thanking Bryant. He said he has enjoyed watching the Mamba play since he was 3 or 4 years old.
“I wish you the best with retirement. I know it’s going to be hard to leave the game,” said OBJ, whose godfather is Shaq. “You’ve put your blood, sweat, and tears in this, for real. You truly inspired people, truly got a lot of people who don’t like you, but that’s a good thing – that means you did what you supposed to do.”
Beckham Jr. said he flipped between Kobe’s final game and the Warriors’ historic 73rd win. He was amused by Kobe’s ability to put up 60 points in his final game before retirement. “Man, I can’t believe it,” he laughed.
“You really inspired me to be a legend, so thank you, Kobe,” Beckham said with a salute.
