Justin Tuck signed a one-day contract today to retire with the New York Giants, and used the occasion to gift 70 Giants coaches, executives, and media members with bottles of Johnnie Walker Blue scotch. The high-end liquor retails for $200 to $400. It's fitting, of course: Johnnie Walker Blue for the organization that calls itself "Big Blue."
"I wanted to thank all the people who have had an impact on my career and helped me get to this incredible milestone," Tuck said. "To recognize their love and support, I’m giving each a bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue Label—just like I did for my team after winning Super Bowl XLVI in 2012. I am honored and humbled to retire with the team I started with and am raising a glass of Johnnie Walker Blue Label to these outstanding individuals. Thank you for being by my side and cheers to new adventures."
Tuck won two Super Bowls with the Giants in 2008 and 2012. He also made the Pro Bowl twice. After playing eight seasons with New York, he moved on to Oakland, where he played two seasons. The Raiders' young core showed its respect for the defesnsive end.
Tuck, a Notre Dame alum, said, "I'm not going to use the word 'retirement,' I'm going to say I'm transitioning." He announced he has been accepted to the MBA program at the University of Pennsylvania's prestigious Wharton School. So yeah, he'll be just fine.
