One of the World Cup's biggest breakout stars has managed to make yet another big statement. Kylian Mbappe, the 19-year-old French phenom, has announced his World Cup proceeds are going to charity.
After France won the World Cup on Sunday, defeating Croatia 4-2, Mbappe was in line to receive about $500,000. That money is now headed to Premiers de Cordée, a charity that provides free sports instruction to disabled children and hospitalized children. The charity also aims to spread disability awareness.
Mbappe, who scored four goals in the worldwide soccer tournament, has been involved with the organization since June 2017.
"Kylian, he's a great person," the charity's general manager, Sebastien Ruffin, told Le Parisien. "When his schedule allows it, he intervenes for us with pleasure. He has a very good [relationship] with children, he always finds the right [words] to encourage them. I sometimes even feel that [he] takes more pleasure to play with the kids than the kids themselves."
In August 2017, Paris Saint-Germain acquired Mbappe from Monaco. The transfer fee was reportedly the most ever paid for a teenager.
The forward made his senior debut for France in 2017 and in this tournament became the youngest French player ever to score in a World Cup. He was only the second teenager (with Pele) ever to score in a World Cup final.
