During a conversation with Bleacher Report, Harvin explains his battle with anxiety and how he self-medicated with marijuana. He went on to state that he smoked weed before every game to calm his nerves.
"You're looking at a guy that was at the Mayo Clinic. I had at least seven prescriptions I was taking... And the only thing that seemed to work was when I smoked marijuana," Harvin said four minutes into the interview. "There’s not a game – there’s not a game I played that I wasn’t high. And that’s what I kind of want the world to see today, is it’s not a stigma... It’s just people that’s just living regular life that just got deficiencies or maybe just want to enjoy themselves. It’s a natural way to do so."
Harvin also detailed how his anxiety ruined some of the biggest moments of his life. When the Seahawks acquired Harvin from the Vikings they added more offensive firepower to match their Legion of Boom on defense. Yet, Harvin's anxiety made these successful times the "worst years of [his] life." Even on the days leading up to the Super Bowl, Harvin's anxiety got the best of him leading to an altercation with teammate Golden Tate. "Thinking about it now, I can't believe I did it," Harvin said. "Those situations. They were on your boy."
