Drew Brees injured his hand during the New Orleans Saints game against the Los Angeles Rams today. The veteran quarterback told ESPN's Josina Anderson that he's seeing a specialist and is concerned that his injury could be significant.

Anderson shared Brees' revelation that he hurt his thumb hitting it on the Rams' Aaron Donald while attempting a pass to the Saints' Jared Cook. While the Saints do have a promising young quarterback behind Brees in Taysom Hill and a veteran starter in Teddy Bridgewater, asking either of them to fill in for one of the greatest NFL quarterbacks in history is no small request.

Drew Brees says he hurt his thumb on the pass attempt to Jared Cook & that he hit it on Aaron Donald. Says he is seeing the hand specialist in LA today. Adds he is concerned and that it could be significant.

The injury to Brees' throwing hand appeared to impact his ability to hold a football, as video footage of the surefire Hall of Famer trying and failing to pick up a ball on the sideline was broadcast during the game.

Brees has become synonymous with the Saints, in no small part because of his consistency and ability to suit up game in and game out. He has started 206 of his team's last 209 games; two of those absences were him resting after the Saints had already secured a postseason berth. A significant stretch without the star is manageable, but nothing any diehard member of the Who Dat Nation wants to see.
