Arsenal teammates Sead Kolašinac and Mesut Özil were driving around London Thursday afternoon when they were approached by a band of attackers who brandished knives in a carjacking attempt.
According to the Daily Mail, Özil was behind the wheel of his black Mercedes G-Class 4x4 when his car was boxed in by the robbers. As they drew closer, Özil’s teammate Kolašinac leapt into action, and confronted the knife-wielding assailants.
Kolašinac fought back against the attackers, giving Özil enough time to drive away from the scene, and seek refuge in the nearby Turkish restaurant Likya.
“It was reported that suspects on motorbikes had attempted to rob a man who was driving a car,” a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said. “The driver, along with his passenger, managed to get away unharmed and travelled to a restaurant in Golders Green, where they were spoken to by officers."
The incident of Kolašinac staving off the robbers with Özil nearby in the driver’s seat was captured on video. Check it out below.
"We have been in contact with both players and they are fine," Arsenal said in a statement, adding, neither required any medical attention as a result of their actions fighting off the failed robbery attempt.
