Earlier this month, former Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz was shot at a club in the Dominican Republic. Further updates revealed that he wasn't the intended target, Sixto David Fernández, and is expected to make a full recovery.

Associated Press reports that the "mastermind" behind the shooting of Ortiz has been arrested, following initial reports they had identified him last week.

Víctor Hugo Gómez has been detained in the Dominican Republic and accused of ordering a hit on his cousin, Sixto David Fernández. The individual responsible for shooting itself, Rolfi Ferreira Cruz, previously confessed to shooting Ortiz at the Dial Bar and Lounge.

Gómez posted a video on his YouTube channel in which he claimed his innocence, according to AP.

"I would never do something like this,” Gómez said in the seven-minute long video. "I want to clarify that I have nothing to do with any attempt on the life against Sixto David Fernández. We're family."

The video also sees Gómez accuse Fernández of working with drug traffickers. Authorities recently revealed they believe Gómez wanted to make sure Fernández was dead because he was planning to tell drug investigators that Gómez had been involved in drug trafficking. He was named a suspect in a drug trafficking sting in Houston back in March.

Alberto Rodríguez Mota, who has been accused of paying the hitmen to kill Fernández, was also arrested by authorities off the coast of the Dominican Republic.
