Dominican Republic authorities have found the suspect that allegedly paid the men that attempted to kill David Ortiz, according to the Associated Press

Per the judge, Gabriel Alexánder Pérez Vizcaíno is accused of being the middle-man between the shooters and the plan's mastermind who paid the men who attacked Ortiz. Court documents disclose that a man who was in jail for an unrelated crime contacted Pérez about the hit a week before the June 9 incident. The man reportedly sent a picture of the target to Pérez. Pérez then shared the picture with the shooters just minutes before the attack. Currently, it has not been revealed if Ortiz was the correct target

Police also claim they are closing in on the men who orchestrated the hit. A man identified as Alberto Miguel Rodríguez Mota is a fugitive believed to be involved in the incident. Along with Rodríguez, police are looking for another suspect that goes by the nickname "Bone." These men along with the inmate that communicated with Pérez put together a 10-man team to attack their target for less than $8,000 USD. Their plan included several vehicles as well as methods of eliminating evidence. This included selling a gold iPhone 6, which was used to call the shooters, to a woman for $180.

Shortly after being stabilized, Ortiz was transported from the Dominican Republic to a Boston hospital where he's still recovering. Ortiz's attorney, José Martínez Hoepelman, claims his client is pleased with the way the police are handling the investigation.

"Trust the authorities," Hoepelman said. "They have worked tirelessly to obtain the results that we have so far. We all want more information, but we have to wait."
