U bum @StephenCurry30 already said he ain't going! So therefore ain't no invite. Going to White House was a great honor until you showed up!— LeBron James (@KingJames) September 23, 2017
He's far from the first or only professional athlete to call out Trump, but LeBron is the most famous athlete in the universe, so every political statement he makes just holds more weight.
In the latest installment of Uninterrupted's web series "Rolling With The Champion," host Cari Champion is joined by arguably the two best basketball players on the planet—James and Golden State's Kevin Durant. In this video, James gives a lengthy explanation of his opinion on Trump and why the Cavs forward has been politically outspoken lately.
His comments begin at the 5:35 mark.
"The No. 1 job in America, the point person, is someone who doesn't understand the people, and really don't give a fuck about the people," James says. "When I was growing up, there were like three jobs that you looked for inspiration, or you felt like, these were the people that could give me life: it was the president of the United States, it was whoever was the best in sports, and then it was like the greatest musician at the time."
Durant nods in agreement as James continues. "You never thought you could be them, but you could grab inspiration from them...and this time right now, with the president of the United States, it's at a bad time," James says.
James went on to say that while athletes cannot control Trump's words, they have a platform that allows them to tell people when they disagree with what he says. Durant adds that he learned the importance of leadership from basketball.
The episode received praise.
