Free agency doesn't officially begin until July 1st, but the Dwyane Wade rumor mill is already moving full steam ahead. After Wade's father was spotted rocking a Cleveland Cavaliers t-shirt this afternoon, which brought out all the D-Wade to the Cavs conspiracy theorists, Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated is reporting that there is apparently "mutual interest" between Wade and the LA Lakers.
While many execs still see Wade/Heat as contract saber rattling, a Wade option will be the Lakers. Mutual interest, per league sources.
Wade is in an awkward spot, looking to recoup the money he sacrificed to allow LeBron James and Chris Bosh to join the Miami Heat in 2010 from an organization that seems hesitant to pay it. All of these things could be a ploy by Wade's team to scare the Heat into anteing up, buuuuut Pat Riley has already rubbed one of his star players the wrong way. Low balling the face of the franchise could force Wade to say sayonara to South Beach.
