It's a referee's job to learn the rulebook back to front unless they're willing to face the ire of football fans and coaches. It's also a referee's job as a human being to understand the basic rules of survival. One rule: Do not stand in front of an object moving at full force. This includes quarterbacks.
For whatever reason, the referee forgot this very basic rule in this Navy-Duke game and paid for it by catching a stiff arm by Navy quarterback Kennan Reynolds. We saw the Titans' Nate Washingtonand Ohio State's Jordan Hall catch black and white-wearing bodies in the past few weeks.
To be fair, Navy forgot a very essential rule in football: You have to put up them points to win the game. The Midshipmen's seven points wasn't cutting it compared to Duke's 35 points in the loss.
