28. Border Grill Truck
Mary Sue Milliken and Susan Feniger, The Food Network's "Too Hot Tamales," have been satisfying customers for years at their award-winning Border Grill restaurant in Santa Monica. Their truck serves gourmet tacos, quesadillas, and ceviches with a contemporary twist that are consistently good and well-presented. Fresh fish, vibrant flavors, and a tortilla cone crunch make for tart and tasty ceviches ($5). The carne asada taco with caramelized onions, salsa fresca, and guacamole ($3) is basic, but nicely balanced, while the fish taco with battered bits of meat, creamy salsa, and chipotle honey ($3) is original and equally satisfying. Doughier and moister than traditional churros, Border Grill's churro tots ($3.50 for 6), which they dab with a bit of whipped cream, are fried bits of excellence.
