The Nike Air Max 1, the first sneaker with visible Air, was designed by Tinker Hatfield and released in 1987. The shoe was inspired by the Pompidou Centre in Paris and the building's see-through architecture. For the past three years on March 26, Nike has celebrated this innovation and the footwear line that's proceeded it with "Air Max Day," but this time around was the first time the brand threw an all-out "Air Max Con."
Part of the celebration included a process where fans could vote for 1 of 100 sneakers they'd want to be re-released. At Air Max Con in New York City, Nike had all of those shoes on display. There were original versions of the Air Max 1, Air Max 90, Air Max 95, and shoes that have never been reproduced such as the Air Max 96, Air Max 98 TL, and the Air Max 2.
