Nike are about to launch the latest installment in their pioneering Metcon shoe range – the Metcon 5 – and it's the Swoosh brand's most durable shoe to date.

The new training shoe features a host of new innovations which Nike have painstakingly spent 9000 hours testing on their top athletes such as three-time Fittest Man on Earth, Mat Fraser, and six-time CrossFit Games athlete Lauren Fisher.

Improvements include a wider heel improves stability during heavy squats, snatches, cleans and shoulder-to-overhead movements, and a new haptic chain-link pattern on the upper can better withstand the abuse of rope climbs – with the tongue also has more cushioning for better support and lock-down.

Elsewhere, grip, traction and abrasion-resistance testing was conducted at Nike’s Sport Research Lab to ensure the data validated the shoe’s design updates, while the Nike Hyperlift insert gives an additional 8mm lift for men and 6mm for women to further improve stability – the higher offset helps you to maintain heel-to-ground contact and balance, which can create strong stability during heavy lifts as well as high-rep squats, wall balls, thrusters and even rowing.

Check out both men's and women's iterations of the silhouette below.
