Andrew Merydith, 15, wants to become the scientist who cures the disease he was diagnosed with—cystic fibrosis. While he continues to work on that goal, the youngster took part in this year's Doernbecher Freestyle program.

Merydith designed the Nike Air VaporMax, pulling a vibrant green and purple scheme from his favorite BMX jersey. His initials form a unique logo on the tongues and the hash tag #ilovethefam is a tribute to his personal heroes—his family.

“My family is my hero,” he explains. “They’ve been so supportive and caring throughout this whole thing.”

The Doernbecher Air VaporMax will release on Saturday, Nov. 18 at nike.com and select Nike retailers.
