If you've ever doubted sneakers as a form of currency then look no further than this story of a Massachusetts man using his Nike's to get out of jail.

This whole story started when Jason Duval was arrested on a warrant for possession charges. Duval was ordered to pay $450 in court fees and in return the charges would be dropped. Citing an on-going divorce, Duval claimed he couldn't pay the fees. Since he didn't believe that Duval would ever pay the fees, judge Douglas Stoddard refused to release him without bail. That's when the judge uttered the following phrase which resulted in Duval's unique form of payment:

“I'll give you a chance to be creative,” Stoddart reportedly told him. “If you can come up with a creative idea to convince me that you'll come back, I'll work with you.”

Wearing a brand new pair of Nikes which he had just gotten as a gift (it's not known what type they were), Duval offered up the sneakers for payment to which judge Stoddard surprisingly (and awesomely) accepted. Duval can now get his sneakers back after he pays $100 in four installments of $25 or after completing 10 hours of community service.
