The suction treads on this ultra-flexible runner were just part of the model's appeal — that name stands for 'Super Light' and they were featherweight in their day. This model shifted units and was frequently imitated. Several adidas models implemented the same heel counter panel application and the dawn of the more resilient SL-76 never replaced the SL-72 — it just accompanied it for extra options, with the 72 staying in circulation for several years. Pioneering, and for a long time, an industry standard.
