UPDATED 2/1, 10:30 a.m. ET: In a statement shared over the weekend, the Brownsville Police Department said it “could not validate” Campbell having stayed in Brownsville “nor any other claims made in the video.” The department also urged Campbell to reach out directly so it could further investigate.

Meanwhile, a rep for Campbell tells TMZ that the alleged incident actually occurred in South Padre Island, Texas, i.e. not Brownsville.

Tisha Campbell warned fans about human trafficking after her scary encounter with a couple of men.

The 53-year-old actress detailed the incident in a video posted to Instagram on Friday, saying it all began after she ended a day of filming on set.

“Don’t freak out, but I think I almost got snatched up,” she said. “So, they don’t have Ubers where I’m filming and I had to call a taxi. So I get this number, but the truck—van that pulls up looks real sketchy. But there’s a guy in the back seat, right? So when he jumps out, the guy is just standing there.”

Campbell said the man who got out of the vehicle demanded she get in, but she refused after noticing more sketchy details.

“I look inside the car, it’s fucked up,” she continued. “The rubber is pulled up from the bottom, there’s dirt everywhere, the back seat looked like it was snatched out and snatched out for a fucking reason.”

Moments later, the man behind the wheel allegedly told Campbell to enter the car, while the second man began motioning her to get in the backseat. After she refused to do so, one of the men told her to “get in the front seat then.”

“I said I’m not getting in the fuckin’ car. ‘Fuck y’all,’” she recalled saying.

Campbell said she then went back to the front desk and asked a staffer who the guy who gave her the number for a taxi was. The woman at the desk was immediately confused, and didn’t know why someone would give Campbell that contact.

“Yo, this trafficking shit is real. They got me fucked up, ’cause I ain’t Gina, bitch,” she said, referring to her character on Martin.

Sources tell TMZ the incident took place in Brownsville, Texas, where Campbell is filming an independent movie. Insiders also said the actress is also working with Toni Rivera on a project about trafficking, which she referenced in the post’s caption.

“If Tony Rivera hadn’t schooled me and my friends on what to look for, SHIT would’ve been real different,” she wrote. “PLUS I don’t sound like I look. Also I am thankful to the production for their concern and their understanding.”

According to TMZ, Campbell has yet to find the man who gave her the taxi number, and she currently has no plans to report the incident to police.
