Sydney Sweeney is facing heat after posting pictures on social media that were interpreted as political statements.

In celebration of her mother’s birthday, the Euphoria star took to Instagram on Saturday to share photos from her mother’s birthday party. The picture that landed Sweeney in hot water features an unidentified man wearing a shirt supporting “Blue Lives Matter,” the pro-police countermovement created in response to Black Lives Matter.

“No better way to celebrate my momma than a surprise hoedown,” the 24-year-old acctress captioned the series of pictures.

The aforementioned photo has sparked backlash, with some people accusing Sweeney of having right-wing motivations. In addition, several memes have since circulated social media, with many joking about where Sweeney and her family were when the January 6 riots took place.

Sweeney took to Twitter on Saturday to deny the accusations.

“You guys this is wild,” she tweeted. “An innocent celebration for my moms milestone 60th birthday has turned into an absurd political statement, which was not the intention. Please stop making assumptions. Much love to everyone.”
