Baldwin posted a new interview on Instagram and to her YouTube page, where she speaks with psychiatrist Dr. Jessica Clemons about mental health and social media. “My husband has helped me so much with” social media, Bieber said around the 7:30 mark. “I really have to give him credit because he’s been doing this so much longer at this really massive level. I think I’ve gone through phases where I’m like, ‘I get it. Yeah, I don’t wanna hear it.’ And then I do it and he’s like, ‘I told you. It’s way better, life is way better this way.’ And he was so entirely right.”
Bieber explained that she’s had to restrict her Instagram use, and doesn’t open the app Monday through Friday. She’s also completely deleted Twitter. She noted that the trolling and criticism became worse after she married Bieber in 2018.
“After getting married especially, it really opened me up to this new kind of level of attention,” Bieber said. “I think one of the biggest things I struggled with for sure was the comparison aspect, of body comparison, looks comparison, behavior comparison.”
“I don’t even have a Twitter anymore, because there was never really a time I’d go on there that I didn’t feel like it was a very toxic environment,” she added. “The thought of even opening the app gives me such bad anxiety that I feel like I’m gonna throw up.”
Bieber also explained how she limits her comments to just people she follows because she knows those people will be “positive” and “encouraging.” She also said she’s started going to therapy.
“I think when you’re going through a situation where you just have so many people hounding you with the same thing over and over and over again, it starts to mess with your mind, and then you start to question everything,” Bieber said. “You’re like, ‘Is there something that I’m not seeing that they see? Maybe they’re right.’ It got to such a low point for me that I was like, ‘Honestly, maybe I’m delusional.’ It’s like separating two realities, essentially.”
