Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom won't be released until June, but Universal is already plotting the third installment of the rebooted film series.
Deadline reports that Universal set the date for the third Jurassic film to arrive on June 11, 2021. So far it's the only movie to premiere on that date, however, Disney/Pixar is slated to release a yet-to-be-announced film the following weekend. It'll arrive almost exactly three years after Fallen Kingdom.
Steven Spielberg, who directed 1993's Jurassic Park, will return as an executive producer alongside Colin Trevorrow. Frank Marshall and Pat Crowley are also set to produce. Pacific Rim Uprising co-writer Emily Carmichael will pen the screenplay the film alongside Trevorrow. Carmichael, who will be writing for the Jurassic franchise for the first time, is the second woman to write for the series.
"It’s important to this franchise that we welcome new creative voices to keep our storytelling fresh and alive," said Trevorrow in a statement, according to Deadline. "I’m thrilled with the tension and beauty [director] J.A.[Bayona] has brought to Fallen Kingdom, and I know Emily will add another layer of emotion to the concluding chapter of our trilogy."
Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, and B. D. Wong will be making their returns, attempting to save the dinosaurs from becoming extinct, again. It's slated to hit theaters on June 22.
