At least one Star Wars spinoff film has officially been confirmed to be put on hold.
Lucasfilm art director and production designer Neil Lamont spoke about a set he was working on for one of the spinoff films that were in development.
"We were just starting our work on another Star Wars spinoff and yeah. We were actually just making our mark on Tatooine—which would have been interesting and some other new galaxies," he told CinemaBlend. "So hopefully, if that comes back, we'll get the chance to be able to do that further."
Lamont didn't say which spinoff film he was working on. It'd be pretty difficult to figure which spinoff he's referring to since Tatooine, aka Luke and Anakin Skywalker's home planet, was featured in the original trilogy and the prequel trilogy. There have also been several spinoffs rumored to be happening, including solo ventures for Obi-Wan Kenobi, Boba Fett, Yoda, and Lando Calrissian. However, back in June they were all reportedly been put on hold until further notice. The move happened after Solo: A Star Wars Story's lackluster box office results with $213 million in comparison to other recent Star Wars films: Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($937 million), Star Wars: The Last Jedi ($620 million), and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story ($532 million).
Lamont previously worked on the sets for The Force Awakens and Rogue One. It's uncertain whether or not he'll get back to working on the spinoff series, but J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: Episode IX is still moving forward with a release date set for Dec. 20, 2019.
