A shooting at a large birthday party at an Airbnb just outside Akron, Ohio, has injured at least nine people, including juveniles.
ABC News reports that a shooting in Bath Township, which is a suburb of Akron, happened after midnight. A large group of people were gathered for a party that was promoted on social media.
In a press conference, Bath Township Police Chief Vito Sinopoli revealed that both adults and juveniles were injured because of the shooting. Most of the victims had gunshot wounds, while at least one person was injured by falling when they were trying to flee the Airbnb.
"We don't have a clear indication yet of the number of individuals who may have been responsible, but we did confirm there were multiple shell casings within the residence," said Sinopoli.
"Upon arrival, our officers were met with a chaotic scene and administered lifesaving aid to the injured," he added. "We can confirm that a large party was taking place at this location, which we learned was advertised on various social media platforms."
According to preliminary evidence, Sinopoli revealed that the "majority of the shots fired were on the first floor of the residence.”
The police chief also requested that if anyone has any photos or videos of the party, they should come forward to share them with the authorities.
"Your information, no matter how small it may seem, could be crucial to this investigation,” he said. "This kind of violence is unacceptable in our community, and we're committed to applying all available resources to this investigation.”
This incident is the second time since July 2017 that there was a shooting at an Airbnb location in Bath Township. Back then, a man was shot in the leg in what appeared to be a drive-by shooting at a party.
