“When that light hits the sky, it’s not just a call. It’s a warning.”

These prescient words arrive early into the new trailer for Matt ReevesThe Batman, starring Robert Pattinson in the title role and representing the latest cinematic overhaul of the iconic DC character.

The new trailer, released as part of Saturday’s DC FanDome event, opens with a mood-setting sequence in which Paul Dano’s serial killer—i.e. Riddler—is seen being arrested at a diner in the dark of the night by a swarm of cops. Left on the diner counter as Dano’s character puts his hands up, appropriately, is a question mark in the form of latte foam art.

Soundtracked by the previously utilized sounds of Nirvana’s “Something in the Way,” the trailer also gives fans a closer look at Zoë Kravitz’s Catwoman and Colin Farrell’s Penguin. At one point, Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne acknowledges the stakes of the detective-like journey he’s on—namely with a firm delivery of “I don’t care what happens to me”—before Catwoman (or rather, Selina Kyle) suggests the real pain is yet to come.

“It’s only gonna get worse for you,” she tells him.
