Carell is joined in the cast for presumed instaclassic by Ben Schwartz, Tawny Newsome, Diana Silvers, Lisa Kudrow, and John Malkovich. Naturally, the set-up is that this is a workplace comedy, albeit in space.
In a new Deadlinepiece out on Tuesday, Carell and Daniels revealed that the series started with a title.
"Netflix had this premise that they thought might make a funny show—the idea made everybody laugh in a meeting, an idea of a show about the origins of a fictitious Space Force," Carell said, adding that Netflix first pitched the show to him. From there, he pitched it to Daniels, though there was still no actual idea aside from the title itself.
"It was really based on nothing, except this name that made everybody laugh," Carell said.
Carell's 2020 slate also includes Jon Stewart's Irresistible, which was originally due for a theatrical release on the same day as Space Force's Netflix debut.
