Jonah Hill Shares Inspiring Message About the Power of Art

Here's what no one ever bothers to tell you about detractors, likely because they too have engaged in some mindless detraction themselves. Those criticizing just for the sake of it and not from a place of genuine concern for your betterment are, almost always, deeply sad sacks of shit who are simply disgusted at the sight of anyone who hasn't joined them on the long and boring road that is Giving Up. For artists, the blowback from this unfortunate group is quite often seemingly unbearable. And for those struggling with some version of that, Jonah Hill has some words of encouragement.

In a message to "anyone who is struggling and in pain but loves movies or TV shows or comedy or painting or dancing or writing or anythinggg" that he noted was written before shooting Mid90s, Hill said all the right things. "Don't fear embarrassment," he wrote. "Don't fear people making fun of you. I did and I do. I say that knowing you will fear that and it will happen. But those people are hurting inside and they say mean shit because they're in pain."

Hill also urged "any young people" inspired by reading his message to take that inspiration and start making art together. "It brings you a new family with other people who are looking to create," he said.
