Jimmy Kimmel Roasts Republicans by Proving Kids Know More About Health Care

Senate Republicans unveiled their unsettling attempt at a health care bill Thursday and immediately received the appropriate response: widespread backlash. Jimmy Kimmel, who recently criticized Republicans' stance on the issue after his newborn son underwent open-heart surgery, responded to this news by sitting down with a group of kids to discuss the ins and outs of health care.

"Health care is the big story of the day today," Kimmel told his audience on Thursday's show. "Whatever version of the new plan gets approved, it'll affect the lives of millions of Americans, most importantly children. So I decided to sit down with a group of them, our future voters and leaders, to see what they know, what they expect."

Kimmel opened with some cursory inquiries about the proper diagnosis method for conditions such as cooties and fried chicken pox, then asked the kids what they wanted to be when they grow up. One kid, to Kimmel's chagrin, said he wants to become "basically a Trump guy."

Kimmel then presented the panel with a hypothetical situation in which they were in possession of water and Kimmel was thirsty. The "basically a Trump guy" kid, after hearing that the other panel members would gladly offer Kimmel some water, theorized that he wouldn't personally need to offer hydration if others were already doing it.

"You are gonna be a President Trump," Kimmel quipped.

On Thursday, four Republican senators released a joint statement in opposition to the current version of the health care bill. "Currently, for a variety of reasons, we are not ready to vote for this bill, but we are open to negotiation and obtaining more information before it is brought to the floor," senators including Ted Cruz and Rand Paul said in a statement to CNN.
