Queen & Slim, undoubtedly one of the most anticipated films of the year, hits theaters later this month following a global premiere at AFI Fest. Star Daniel Kaluuya hit up The Late Show Tuesday night to discuss the film, which is directed by Melina Matsoukas from a script by Lena Waithe.

Asked about his impression of Ohio before taking the part of Slim, a character who ends up shooting a cop in self-defense on the same night as a Tinder date with Queen (Jodie Turner-Smith), Kaluuya detailed what he learned from a regional Costco team.

"Slim works at Costco so I found the Costco that he was at . . . I just kinda hung out and I just spoke to the staff and they just showed me a couple hoods and areas that Slim would be from," he told host Stephen Colbert after some playful back-and-forth about the American pronunciation of the bulk-shopping outlet. "I found that if you work at Costco on a Sunday, you earn 38 dollars an hour. So I was like, Oh, he thinks he's a catch so he's going into this date thinking 'I'm a great catch.' Like, of course you're gonna be on Tinder. [He's a] Sunday Costco guy!"

Elsewhere, Kaluuya dispensed some wise acting advice and recalled his own audition experiences. See the full thing up top.

Queen & Slim hits theaters Nov. 27. The official soundtrack, featuring Megan Thee Stallion and many more, consists of 17 tracks and will be available everywhere this Friday.
