Ewan McGregor Responds to Reports of Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ Series Being Placed on Hold (UPDATE)

UPDATED 1/24, 10:45 a.m. ET: Ewan McGregor has called "bullshit" on recent on reports saying the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ series has been delayed over problems with the script, Comicbook.com reports.

"The scripts are really good. I saw 90% of the writing and I really liked it," McGregor said while he was at the premiere Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn). "All this bullshit about creative differences and all that stuff, none of it is true. We just pushed the dates ... last episode, [The Rise of Skywalker] came out, everyone had more time to read the stuff that had been written, and they felt that they wanted to do more work on it."

The actor, who said that shooting has been delayed to January, also said that the reports are " not as nearly as dramatic as it sounds online" and said that talk of creative differences are "not true."

He continued: "I think they want to keep the same release date so it’s not really gonna affect the viewer in any way... It just simply gives them more time to write and make the scripts even better."

Sorry Star Wars fans, but that Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ original series you all were waiting on? Production has shut down, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The plan is that the show will be rewritten to be shot at a later date, but for now, it has been delayed.

According to Collider, the crew that was set to work on the series at Pinewood Studios in London was told to go home. The crew was apparently told that the show would be on hold "indefinitely." That's not a great sign.

But all is not lost. Actors were reportedly screen-testing opposite McGregor, so he is still attached to the project. Deborah Chow, the first-ever female Star Wars director due to her work on The Mandalorian, is also still working with the series. However, Lucasfilm is looking for a new writer for the series. On top of that, the series is now reportedly four episodes instead of six.

According to one source, the original script for the Obi-Wan series was very similar to The Mandalorian. It appears that Lucasfilm wanted to go in an entirely new direction.

The show is reported to be set several years after the events of Revenge of the Sith. The goal is for production to begin this summer, according to Collider.
