The anticipatedย Star Warsย spin-off movieย centered around the fan-favorite bounty hunter Bobaย Fett has reportedly been canceled.ย

Emmy-winningย journalist Erick Weber posted a tweet last night saying he spoke withย Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy and she personally confirmedย that the proposed project was now, "100% dead."

Kathleen Kennedy just confirmed to me Boba Fett movie is 100% dead, 100% focusing on THE MANDALORIAN #StarWars

Weber also said that Kennedy confirmed the focus going forward was going to be placed on the upcoming television series,ย The Mandalorian,ย a series that follows a lone gunfighter on his journey far from the rulings of the New Republic.ย

Rumors of a Bobaย Fett film go as far back as 2013ย with no official confirmation on filmingย ever coming from Lucasfilm.ย Loganย director James Mangold was even rumored to have been tapped to pen a screenplay this past May.ย

The cancellation of a futureย Bobaย Fettย film can most likely be credited to the poor box office salesย ofย the franchise'sย most recent standaloneย film,ย Solo:ย A Star Wars Story. The Spring 2018 release only made $392 million worldwide, significantly less than the $1 billion plus the other three most recentย Star Warsย films have each accumulated.

As forย The Mandalorian, the live-action series executive produced by Jon Favreauย is scheduled to release exclusively on Disney streaming platforms in 2019. Fans of the classic franchise will have to wait until late 2019 for its next silver screen appearance when the yet-to-be-titledย Star Wars: Episode IXย is slated to hit theaters.
